Hitchens looks depressed. An atheist doesn’t believe in hope either. No wonder he is cynical and always looks irritated.

The guest had no answer to Hannity’s question, which was: how can something (the universe) spontaneously appear from nothing. In addition, the universe is an organized system with organized subsystems. He did not explain how this could be.

Chance? Sorry, chance is component concept (math) of this universe and cannot have preceded it. In other words there was no such thing as chance before the universe came into being.

In my experience atheists are not strong critical thinkers.

BTW, I cannot stand listening to Hannity on the radio. He’s a one-sided blowhard.

Laugh, I nearly cried …

Hows the above comment from DG, “In my experience atheists are not strong critical thinkers. ”

It only leaves me with the impression the your so called “experience” is that of someone who live under a rock.

All atheists have is their critical thinking- which unlike religious zealots keeps them from subscribing to a social norm out of blind fear of the unknown.

If there are gods they would surely be embarrassed by followers that believe in them simply because contemplating any other explanation to their existence is just too confronting or demanding.

DG, atheists are not good critical thinkers? Unfortunately, your comment isn’t the product of much critical thought. Cherry pick among the sciences for evidence, because there’s a lot to choose from, but especially read some physics. Hawking writes very readable books. There’s a great book called “God – The Failed Hypothesis” by a physicist named Victor Stenger. By the way, when physicists like Hawking and Einstein speak of God, they use that as a catch-all for the underlying structure and laws present in nature, not for a personal God, which Einstein, in fact, viewed as a “naive” notion. Speaking of naive, if Hannity and FAUX News had alloted the segment more time, I’m sure Hitchens would’ve referenced the current state of how modern astrophysics views the origins of the cosmos. Hitchens is a journalist and literary critic, so he’s not the one to ask, anyway. As Dawkins has said, why do we need to explain the beginning a complicated system with an even more complicated one? And Angela, it just so happens that in the evening hours, Mr. Hitchens enjoys a nip of Scotch, which is probably the reason he looked a bit tired. Everyone’s got some kind of vice. Some people have religion.

“In my experience atheists are not strong critical thinkers.”

What a complete and utter heap of BS. It is their nature of critical thinking that allows them to question the insanity of religion without being blinded and obstructed by the term(s) god (and faith).

When religious people are backed into a corner then always resort to the supernatural aspects of god to bail them out: “god doesn’t want us to know” / “Nothing is impossible with god” / “only god knows the answer” etc.

With such a cheap and easy get out clause, it creates a stonewall that prevents any sort of critical thinking for themselves. “God” is the greatest obstacle for intellectual and open minded thinking.

Well Hannity does not seem to understand the big bang theory very well. It does not state anywhere in the theory that everything came from nothing. First of all we have a slight idea about how it came to be but we dont know for sure, and probably never will (this is where the god of the gaps comes into play) And it would take far to long for Hitchens to explain how the universe is the way it is and why, and it would confuse a majority of fox’s audience.

How much is realistic?
